An
unexpected turn on the Kotdwar- Pauri road brings you to Lansdowne,
a pretty hill station in the Pauri Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
‘Lord Lansdowne’ founded Lansdowne, in 1887 AD, thus the place has
been named after him. This beautiful retreat was popular with the
British who established the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre here
during the Raj. The town is well developed thanks to the cantonment,
it is charming unspoiled and tranquil.
The drive to Lansdowne will be the best drive of your life. The
route goes through small hamlets and thickly forested countryside
roads. The first view of Lansdowne is breathtaking. Lansdowne is set
admits lovely surroundings - tall oaks and blue pines raise like
spires off the mountainside. The forests are lovely, dark and deep,
just ideal for those long walks and for rejuvenating oneself. In
spite of being so close to Delhi, it surprisingly, does not have
traffic on the road leading to Lansdowne. Lansdowne was originally a
popular hill station of the British. Attracted by its salubrious
climate and natural beauty, they established a cantonment here. The
place still has a cantonment and proudly preserves its links from
the past.
The FAIRYDALE RESORT at Lansdowne is the only resort at
Lansdowne with a discipline of its own. The emphasis is on letting
the bodies own rejuvenation process take over while the system
supplied with the right amount of nutrients, exercise, walks, and
fresh air. Your choice of food from the large menu is cooked in the
mess and it’s a gourmet’s delight. We believe that the world must
wait a little while our guests build up their stamina to take on the
world again. Fairydale is the little Himalayan wonderland that makes
tigers out of corporate executives.
One comes to Lansdowne to do nothing. Let's face it. All of us
deserve to do nothing every once in a hectic while and we at
Fairydale Resort offer you just that and more.
Its green hill and varied fauna and flora makes it a colorful and
picturesque hill station, commanding a wonderful view of the
extensive Himalayan snow ranges as also a glittering view of the
river Ganga. Un-spoilt nature, bracing air and a magnificent view of
the snow covered peaks inspire peace and tranquility. If you dream
of the romance of the mountain, then Fairydale Resort is the perfect
place.
Fairydale has limited accommodation. These are five large rooms
within the house and three in the cottages below (see
photographs of room ). An outhouse has been
converted into a dining room. The log cabin with its wide glass
windows has beautiful view of the surrounding trees and foliage. Mr.
Pankaj Shah, the owner of Fairydale Resort, has outsourced the
catering to Mr Ashok Khandelwal, who keeps Fairydale clean, green
and with a hygienic kitchen. He serves the best Indian, Mughlai,
Marwari and Chinese food, this side of the Himalayas.
A breakfast of 'hot paranthas' with creamy yogurt and Khandelwal's 'marwari
pickle' is a favorite with guests. But he can also serve you the
best cuisine, if ordered.
